Here's a couple of ideas. Install from Microsoft's site the TCIP 1.2 update, the updates including "ole" in the name... many are dated this past July.

krnlupd.exe
oleupd.exe
wsockupd.exe
vtcpupd.exe
pingupd.exe

are examples.

download and double click on the name and they self install.

I also had crashes with Netscape until doing this. Sean Smith suggested the updates here for someone else having crashes and his solution centered on replacement of the Winsock .dll. That's on the list above.

Interestingly, when I installed IE 4 a awhile back it updated some stuff (no idea what) and I noticed computer wide improvements in performance... improvements in Win95 operation... not just IE 4.
