The main reason for AGP is not to improve graphics performance (which it does), but to get the graphics off the PCI system bus to allow more bandwidth for audio and networking.

BTW, Intel will this week release the 440LX AGPset chip set for PII processors. Intel's publicity blurb touts "system performance" improvements, with no mention of faster graphics.
