I've been gone a few days. Thanks for letting me get home to these stories. They hit the spot. I thought of you while I was gone as I drove through TN with just a hint of autumn in the trees and the full feel of early autumn in the air and on the skin.

I want to get back there in a few weeks so I can catch the trees in glory. After 2 1/2 days of the grindstone... redoing the drain piping from the AC, and ripping out the ruined carpet in the laundry room, and scraping the gluey foam pad from the concrete with a trowel, and running the weed whacker for hours, and mowing the very big, steep lawn not the easy way back and forth as you go downhill but in a diaganol... down and up, down and up, and on and on (she says it looks purty that way???), and so forth... my body was give out and my brain was dead. I was not too tired to drive brainwise but I sure wasn't sharp. I'd been staying in a dive hotel because it was close and I knew how to get there and it is cheap. Well, you know how some people can be about dive hotels with the addicts and the whores? Kinda like they get about me sleeping at rest areas. So I agree to go up to Day's Inn and they explain to me over and over how to get there...

but after hitting Lowe's, I thought I knew what I was doing and headed down the road. After several miles I realize I'm headed out of town. but I see a road name I know goes through town, so I take it. But I go the wrong way and go a few miles when the name changes and I know I'm headed out of town again. But I'd been on there once and knew it went to 25, which was supposed to take me where I wanted to go. But I went the wrong way on it, and next thing there is the Lake. But it was beautiful. Peaking in out of the hills as the world went to dusk. But "country" was ahead. So some miles after the Lake, I got an exit and found myself on the way to Rogersville, about out of gas and being thankful for cellphones because I didn't much feel like walking to a station. There came the station and nice lady who told me how to get where I was going (which was also back to the town I'd left miles ago).

A ten minute drive took me well over an hour, but it was a gorgeous drive. Now I need to go drive it on purpose and when the leaves are blazing. ::smile::

I really should never let myself get near empty because ya just never know when a few miles will turn into 100 while you wander about looking for... something.
