Rather, my thinking is that it is not the root of all medical maladies. I never said it was the root of all medical maladies. It's only been linked to an increased incidence of about a hundred diseases. :-)
. If you or anyone else is bothered by smoke, I refrain from smoking in their presence. I appreciate this. It will be little consolation at your funeral, though.
I even ask in socially accepted smoking environments (casinos, bars, etc.) if another or others around me mind if I light up, and act accordingly. You know this! I know that. See above.
Chapter 11: Is Nicotine Addictive? Is the author sane? - -A former addict
Most times, smoke does not bother me esthetically. That's understandable. That thick haze does help hide ugliness.
That said, I am bothered if the smoke is too thick or too dense, such as can be experienced in a poorly ventilated room or forest fire. If it bothers you in high concentration, it means it is irritating parts of your body - by damaging them. Is it not reasonable to assume low concentrations cause the same irritating chemical reactions, but at a level where you are not conscious of them?
Would that other homo sapiens would behave with my (and many, MANY others') polite restraint WRT my extremely negative reactions to noise pollution, particularly "popular music," played loudly and heavily laden with instruments of rapid, repetitive percussion. OK. It is known that repeated exposure to high intensities of music can cause hearing damage. Really high levels can cause more extensive organic damage. That means it should be avoided, not that you should seek it out. |
