There is no question that Bush / Cheney are disconnected from reality. One of the weirdest aspects of their public comments is how they label Kerry a "pessimist" for pointing out how things really are.

Kerry correctly points out Iraq is a mess. Bush calls him a pessimist.

Kerry correctly points out the weak economy, with huge budget and trade deficits. Bush calls him a pessimist.

It reminds me of the Op-Ed pieces that Calvin Coolidge wrote during the Hoover administration (at the start of the Great Depression). Coolidge called anyone that pointed out the facts a "pessimist". I guess that is fitting, since Bush has used a similar phrase as Hoover: "Prosperity is just around the corner" and, of course, Bush will be the first President since Hoover to preside over net job loss.

Bush supporters succumb to ideology, religion, Nationalism and fear. Not logic, reason and reality. It CAN happen here.
