Samsung Profit Below Forecast -- Reuters, citing source

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s 3Q operating profit has fallen around 10 percent short of market forecasts due to weak sales of flat screens, a source familiar with the company's business said on Friday. "The outlook for the fourth quarter is expected to be even worse," the source told Reuters. Samsung, the world's top memory chip and liquid crystal display (LCD) maker, is looking at an operating profit of around 2.7 trillion won to 2.8 trillion won ($2.35 billion to $2.44 billion) the source said. Analysts had been expecting 3.08 trillion won, according to a Reuters poll. The LCD division performed worse than expected, hit by tumbling panel prices, and the handsets didn't help either with increased competition on prices," the source said.
