Is there any consideration that the delay of Pennsaid was politically motivated?

The Pfizer and Merck both knew their products had heart risks. Is there not a large possibility that these companies pressured the FDA to stall approval on this tiny Cdn upstart that was poorly managed? If the FDA stalled long enough the company would go bankrupt and the threat would be gone or bought out by one of these 2 companies.

Now that the VIOXX disaster du jour has been exposed and Celebrex if feeling the heat too, I wonder if the FDA will not speed up its time line. After all with the current excellent clinic trials coupled with sales in Canada, Europe and the Caribbean. the FDA has plenty of good data.

Time will tell.
