Kodiak, re: LOL. Just what is it about CBS and 60 Minutes that inspires (or retains) your trust?

Nothing. I have no more "trust" in 60 minutes than I do in Fox news. I do, however, at times watch both, and I don't simply dismiss everything they present based on some kind of simplistic "you can't trust them" thinking.

When they have interviews I watch the interviewees to see how they tell their story and to examine their basis for the facts they assert. I watch for supporting information and whether the producer attempts to present the "other side" effectively. I look for consistencies and inconsistencies between what they say and what others have said. I look for common sense support for their "facts" or opinions and I consider what they say in the overall context of what I've heard and read elswhere. If it all makes sense then It goes into the questions and answers that I form. The first half of F 9/11, by way of example, went into my mental trash bin but the second half went into my mental data file.

The alternative is to shut down all "contrary" sources of information because you can ALWAYS find a way to attack the messenger. That leads to the phenomonem of single-sourced thinking. Another term for that might be black and white thinking. Another term might be rigid and polorized thinking. I'm sure you could find better terms to define that than I could.

What is "LOL" about that?
