Yes, the movement of Tom Friedman toward positions very similar to those with which I agree has been remarkable. The last real difference is that he may still think that the "mission" of "creating" democracy in Iraq through our efforts was achievable, while I believe that it was doomed to failure from the start no matter whether we'd done more things right. But then I've seen first hand how a people respond to aggressive "help" from foreigners and he and almost every one of the Bush planners, except Powell, hadn't and wasn't willing to listen to those who had.
