Was that really necessary?

I don't think Bush is saying GFY to anyone, he would rather they work with him, but the oil for food is exposing some rather nasty problems for France. If the allegations of highly placed France officials benefitting with oil vouchers from Saddam -- that comes very close to a charge of corruption.

Kerry was also opportunistic on the accusation that Bush rushed into war with Iraq. If you looked at the actual history, Bush and Powell went to the UN and tried diplomacy for many months. Bush did not rebut Kerry's charge and explain this in the debate. They had resolution 1441, which I thought was a diplomatic coup.

We all know how long the UN takes to debate matters of life and death. You only have to look at Sudan today.

But now, it seems if the charges are true, this could further explain why some french officials are reluctant to stop the sanctions and go in to disarm Iraq --- money talks. However, I would reserve judgment until more facts are known.
