Thought I'd chime in with my thoughts about the debate. Kerry looks and acts presidential and speaks eloquently. When Bush speaks I'm embarassed. Liked the question about how the rest of the world thinks of us since this fiasco in Iraq. Shrub is oblivious, but of course he would be, had he even been to Europe before elected president? How can anybody stomach the spin the repubs are putting on about the "global test" taken completly out of context? Don't these baffoons realize we aren't self sufficient on muliple levels most glaringly economically? What bothers me the absolute most is that NONE of these right wing nuts (and a substantial amount of the rest of the population) challenges this war on moral terms--ie just because the US has the might can it go into any country we want and bomb the heck out of it, destroy its infrastructure, take out the leader and kill his sons? What if another country were to apply the same standard to attack us and our leaders? The US can now be internationally regarded as a loose cannon. I wish Kerry would have spoke about the Saudis being the money machine behind radical Islam. Why is there no discussion about how dangerous Pakistan is since it has nukes and that's most likely where OBL is?
Pride in being an American for me has always come because America took the high ground and did not preemptively blow countries up just because we feel like it. Americans are disliked now because of this extreme ethnocentrism . Do we think we can trample through whatever country we want to "feel" secure no matter if that involves attacking a country that was absoloutely no threat to us? This is a disgusting attitude and will come back to haunt us.
Once again the republicans prove the best defense is an offense. How anyone could spin the latest reports of absolutely no WMDs in Iraq as justification for going to war takes balls of steel and the repub (and their front men like Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reily) have them.
Back to the debate Kerry did very, very well. I thought Bush was going to have a melt down and attack the moderator. What's with that eye-blinking? He debates like an adolescent--he obviously just spits out what he's just been spoon fed by his handlers and his lack of depth is obvious.
