Before the war there was no evidence of an al Qaeda presence in Iraq and no Iraqi/al Qaeda link. Subsequent reports by the 911 commission and the CIA have established that as fact.

al Queda is a religious nut group. Saddam was a secular dictator who wasn't about to lose power by turning his country into a ready target, ala Afghanistan.
