I tried several suggestions without success. The simplest idea came from my son, who is fully MS certified and works on servers, etc. everyday.

"Just rebuild your list of favorites and get on with your life."

Done! Life is good!

I'm sure curious as to why this happened, though. And I wish I had done an uninstall and reinstall first. I still may do that but I've spent enough time on this for one day. That old original install is still on this machine, hiding someplace. Actually, this is the original install, but with a new profile. It's the "default" profile that lingers, invisible, with all my old favorites.
