Gib - you're mistaken about Ameritrade. I've been using them to trade Canadian stocks for several years. Until recently, you couldn't do it over the website (i.e needed to call in your orders and pay a higher commission). But now you can place an order by internet for the same commission as U.S stocks. There are still the problems that you can't get canadian quotes on the website and you have to use the US pinksheet symbol to place the order in US dollars (although it is routed directly to Canada, through Canaccord). So I usually end up calling in to get a quote and confirm the symbol before placing the order via internet.
