FAQs are not immutable. They can be changed. I could go with no moderated threads or the previous system. What the proposed system REALLY means is a moderator can have no one on ignore and must constantly monitor his moderated threads. While you may have gotten complaints from pre-bannees in the past, NOW you are hearing from the moderators. We're the people have the cojones to start the threads that get those posts and take the flak for our actions as moderators.

There are also numerous threads that have been started with particular POVs and orientations in mind. It seems that for such as these, pre-banning is an entirely legitimate action. Are you suggesting that I don't know the POV to be expected from, say, American Spirit?

Frankly, there are people you KNOW are going to be trouble on certain threads and nothing but trouble. Their purpose in appearing on the thread is simply disruption and name calling and nothing else. They contribute nothing. An example? DayTraderKidd on Compendium. He's had 3 chances there and is now out of luck.

After the person to be banned has posted. If someone's going to be banned, they should at least get a chance to earn the distinction of making the thread's ban list.
Why? See above.

Silicon Investor encourages participation, and thread moderators should too as long as the poster is not overly disruptive and conforms to site rules and thread guidelines.
That ignores the above.

Within the scope of those broad guidelines, ban/unban decisions are at the moderators' discretion. Users who are unsatisfied with a moderator's use of the ban feature should look to other threads on the subject, and can also start a new thread if no suitable alternatives exist.

The site admins have the ability to ban/unban on all threads, including non-moderated threads. Banning activity is logged, and moderators found to be egregiously abusing the feature are subject to losing their moderator privileges.

So when does ChinuSFO get his silver bullet? I know of no other abuse of moderation power as egregious as his.
