We were already the object of fatwas due to the UN sanctions on Iraq. In fact, OBL's fatwas led directly to 911. It's nonsense to say we're now a "bigger target"? We simply remain a target as we were before. One difference we are not fighting them - and doing so outside the US. Similarly, re. Australia, it was already a target before the Iraq war - remember the Bali bombing targeting mostly vacationing Aussies. The pre-Iraq gripe about Australia for islamists was over E Timor. Remember the old "joke" about Jews about to be shot by Nazis. One shouts out curses at them and the other says "Ssh, you'll just make them mad." The islamists hated America and intended to kill us before the Iraq war. And they acted on that hate. They've wanted to defeat and destroy America for years. It doesn't get any worse than that. Do you think if we hadn't overthrown Saddam, they'd cut us some slack or something?
