Ralph, my dear departed Mom once said, "Jim, try my Xanex. After all, I've taken them all my life and I have never been addicted to them." (big laugh)

My experience with them is that they are bad for seniors because they are likely to cause them to fall and break bones. However, I would discourage any person with an addictive personality to stay away from them.
