Here's another study where the authors mistakenly assume that a convicted murderer released from prison did not actually commit the crime. One can see their point if the 'real' murderer was caught as part of the exoneration process. But most of the cases are post trial hearings, where appeals lawyers successfully attack the judge's trial decisions and the credibility of witnesses. It looks like they even include political pardons as exonerations.
