Varian Semiconductor Launches VIISta 810XE Ion Implanter
Tuesday October 12, 9:02 am ET
New Single Wafer Ion Implanter Extends VSEA's Lead in Medium Current

GLOUCESTER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 2004--Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates, Inc. (NASDAQ: VSEA - News) introduced today its single wafer VIISta 810XE medium current ion implanter. Based on the VIISta 810EHP industry benchmark for medium current performance, the VIISta 810XE is designed to deliver the highest productivity and process performance. Multiple orders for the VIISta 810XE have already been received. The initial shipments will go to a DRAM manufacturer in Taiwan.

"The VIISta 810XE ion implanter takes the best of the VIISta 810EHP product attributes and combines them with both increased low energy beam current and maximum throughput that exceeds 400 wafers per hour, and an optional extended energy range to 900keV for covering many well applications," said John Aldeborgh, Varian Semiconductor's vice president of sales and marketing. "With the extended energy performance package on the VIISta 810XE, it can reduce the number of high energy ion implanters required and provide greater back-up flexibility."

The VIISta 810XE also features enhanced beam currents to improve productivity for low energy implants, a patented parallel path wafer handling architecture, high velocity dose control scanning system, precision doping capability and unmatched contamination control.

"It's no secret that our medium current ion implanters are in production at nearly all of the major logic, memory and foundries around the world," remarked Ernie Godshalk, president and chief operating officer of Varian Semiconductor. "With the introduction of the VIISta 810XE, Varian Semiconductor extends its lead in the marketplace by offering the most cost effective and technologically innovative medium current ion implanter available."

The VIISta platform of ion implanters is the only single wafer platform solution for all production applications available. All of the VIISta products feature the Varian Control System (VCS(TM)), the Varian Positioning Systems (VPS(TM)) and a common single wafer endstation. This high degree of commonality across the VIISta platform facilitates process matching throughout the tool set and provides flexibility in managing capacity, product mix changes, spare parts and training.
