You're doing it again. Whenever you don't like the message you simply attack the messenger. Once again, your knee-jerk reaction is standing in the way of careful analysis.
The fact is that Goering was no fool. Like many manipulative, controlling people he had a grasp of how to use fear, distrust and anger to mobilize everyday people in efforts that they would normally not support. There's a lot of common sense for, and historical support validating, his statement and the statement itself is, I believe, clearly stated and perceptive.
So the answer is that Goering would know a lot about the subject. He had, you'll recall, participated with some success in getting the German people to a fever pitch for war. Whether in a democracy or some other form of government, that is a vital ingredient in pushing people to endure the sacrifices inherent in fighting a war. |
