You're assuming this new iPod or whatever will allow you to hook up your camera directly to it. This capability remains to be seen or confirmed.

Definitely assuming exactly that. Without the possibility of downloading photos from a digital camera to it, the photo part of the rumored new iPod would be a simple luxury, one which would not interest me. With the option of it being a download image bank, it will become a necessity for countless thousands of digital photographers on the go, myself included. If this new iPod is indeed on the way, it would be a colossal mistake not to make it camera friendly, via USB and Firewire.
