Z, Do you know what it's like to raise a family on $5.15/hr?

If that's the overriding reason for raising the minimum wage, then we should raise it to $18/hour, given that a study set the "low income" level at around $36,000:

Of course, I exaggerate to make a point. Minimum wage was never meant to feed a family. To me, it only serves as a floor so that businesses are prevented from exploiting cheap labor.

It doesn't have to lead to fewer jobs. If other conditions improve in conjunction, that won't happen.

The point is that raising the minimum wage will indeed create a negative effect on jobs. It's nice to aim for improving conditions so much that we can afford to raise the minimum wage without losing jobs. But we're stuck with the reality that the economy can only grow at a certain rate. So which statistic should we focus on? Lower unemployment, or higher wages for workers paid by the hour?
