Hi Eddie, I saw the interview, and heard the comments you mentioned. What caught me though was Schmidt's eys getting big, face stern and seemed like he turned a shade whiter when asked about IBM. He said that Novell is not for sale and does not need to be for sale. The whole thing done in genuine Novell (John Young) style.
He also made the comment about getting all the products in development and beta out and "seeing where we end up". His comment about no good quarters until 98 seemed to answer the question on Q4...bad news, question is how bad.
Sounds like a hell'va plan. But let's not wait to see where we stand to build a new building. Even though I'm basically out, this company and they way they do things still infuriates me. I'll bet that per the PC Week article, talks were taking place. Has it ever been that a company has been sold without the CEO, COB's knowledge?
I don't think they have any idea where this quarter is going, and if I were to guess, it's not going well to date. You would think that Dr Schmidt has set himself up for Q4, but you would've thought that on the Q2 and Q3 pre-earnings announcements.
Regarding the in-house cleanup, unfortunately, there are approximately five people he missed, and they probably would have made the single largest difference.
I made just a little so far, but looks like a lot of folks are down on Novell's latest shenanigans.
Sorry for the negativity...I'll go back to my hole now.
