In 1969, I predicted that the US would collapse by 2000. I extrapolated the trends and correctly forecast that by that year more than 30% of the births would be out of wedlock. It seemed to me that those born out of wedlock became outcasts. Having uniformly low self esteem, most would become Marx's lumpenproletariat, i.e. criminals, alcholics, drug addicts, beggars, mental cases, prostitutes etc. I thought that with 15% of the young adults in that state the civilization had to collapse. Little did I realize that so many families would be broken half way through life that the conventional family would no longer be the dominant pattern, and being born out of wedlock would no longer have any special stigma. Incidentally, at the time I exchanged letters with Buffett and he, rather curtly, said he disagreed with me. He was right and I was wrong.
Now it looks to me again that the US must collapse. It is in a fight to the death combat with Islam. Not that such a war was declared. But both the dominant political parties are determined to wage war against the enemies of Zionism, and these all happen to be Islamic states. Sure those ruthless scum like Bin Laden have other motives, such as ruling Arabia, but the rallying point for their troops is not "Let's grab power in Arabia" but "Look how they are slaughtering our brothers, the Palestinians." It would be a lot cheaper for the US to welcome all the Israelis into the US; doubtless they would contribute to the US economy. But that won't be done. Can anybody comment on this? The investment relevance here is obvious. |
