Yesterday one of the "housekeeping" things I was doing was removing digital photos from diskettes (my digital camera is a Sony Mavica) and putting them into other storage media.

I have several nice ones of the Pentagon after they bulldozed away the wreckage and were getting ready to rebuild.

Which made me realize that the vast majority of the photos are from pre-9/11. It's like my life has been on hold ever since. I've started to get out more this year, finally.

I remain absolutely convicned that a terrorist attack WILL occur, but no longer waste time worrying about it. The fact that the Patent Office (where my husband works) is no longer in Crystal City (near Pentagon) helps. This move was in the works for years before 9/11, they are in some very nice buildings that Carlyle Construction - yes, THAT Carlyle - is still in the process of building.

The DC metro area is a big place. When you think about it, the type of nuclear bomb that a terrorist is likely to be able to deploy would be smallish as such weapons go, at ground level, and for most people in the area would be survivable. Prevailing winds go east, so if you are west of Ground Zero, that's even better.

It's a weird thing to think about, but for most of us, it would not be The End Of The World As We Know It.

But I would not say "no worries." I still worry.
