Sorry if I took part of your comments out of context. However, they served a good platform to launch my rant.<g>

Access to energy is a huge security interest to the US. Iraq was only tapping a fraction of the potential. France and Russia voted against the invasion since they facilitated most of the Food for Oil trade program with Iraq. It was in their interest to resist any change in the situation in Iraq.

As far as the production levels of oil in Iraq, I would suspect the new vision for Iraq will significantly increase the production of oil across Iraq.

I think it is unfair to call North Americans our worst enemy just because most people drive cars. We need new technologies for our cars. In this respect, the market has been our worst enemy for failing to reduce our dependence on gasoline.
