I wasn't familiar with her at all.

Now I am glad that I am.

My son received a whole batch of letters yesterday from his class in the US. We immediately went out and bought postcards and made one out to each child- I also sent small bits of UK money for everyone. I hope they enjoy it. My son had a really nice class in the US- special ed (because he is in middle school, and middle schoolers are horrible- sort of like the worst behaved folks on SI, actually- the similarities are scary, really). As you may know special ed is almost 100% boy- there is one girl in his class, but that's it.

I know my son liked being in regular ed here in Scotland. sigh We are pretty sure he will do well in college- where most people act like real grownups (the kind with manners)- but that leaves the rest of middle school and high school to get through...

Perhaps home school is the answer. He's getting dangerously smart, our son- his tests are amazing. He started out in 2nd grade (when the school did not want to test him, even though it was our right) below the 20th percentile in everything. Now, several years later, after my fight to get him in regular ed in primary school, he tests in the 90th percentile in some things, and above average in everything :-)

Does life get better than that? No. It's been a long road, and it's not over, but gosh, it's nice to see a lovely metaphorical sunrise along the way.
