Notice to thread:

The following was just emailed to the webpersons:

----------------------------------------------------

(This letter will be posted on the thread)

Jill/Brad - I started the Biotech Bash etc thread about a week ago with the intent of bringing together views of a wide spectrum of companies in the field. I believe the idea has met with some acceptance since the thread has been on the 'hot subject' list for some time. I believe I have behaved responsibly in maintaining the focus of the discussion, supplying appropriate links, and trying my best to keeping the roar to a minimum. However, I'm finding the behavior of one of the participants unacceptable and if this cannot be resolved, I'm requesting the thread be either altered or completely eliminated. This does not involve fraud but rather the domineering actions of Henry Niman: the man is obsessed with Ligand Pharmaceuticals and has placed at least 35% of the posts thus far. Other 'Liganders' have followed suit albeit to a lesser degree. On Monday night, 25 August, I placed a post (HENRY-PLEASE-STOP) but, as you can easily observe, to no avail. Henry Niman feels compelled to overwhelm the thread with Ligand information and rarely exhibits either the decency nor the maturity to consolidate his knowledge (by contrast, see post #48: concise, informative, well written) . His presence is toxic to the free exchange of a VARIETY of information.

Since my name is on the 'letterhead' on this thread and since this thread is close to becoming 'Ligand II', my comfort level as sponsor of this forum is rapidly declining. I still believe this thread has a potentially interesting future; I'm also aware its not possible to ban anyone from posting (all else being equal). Its clearly not possible to anticipate that Mr. Niman will behave responsibly in the future.

I await your suggestions. If necessary, the thread's title could be changed to 'Ligand II' with my name and introductory comments removed. All non-Ligand posts would also be removed and the tally placing a thread on the 'hot list' should be set to zero.

Please reply prior to enacting any changes. Thank you.

Best wishes,
Peter Dale
