My point is that the countries not involved don't get to ask for more time.

How can the countries on the security council, from whom the US was requesting support, and who refused to give it on America's timetable, not be involved?

so I attach very little importance to the money aspects.

Well then your view gets its appropriate level of concern, zero!

I was contrasting the importance of loss of life to material costs as not being in the same league. Not in my book anyway.

What? Speak English! Why don't you just say whatever it is you are trying to say? I can't understand you....

OK...two points in simple english for you. The UN worked in Iraq. Inspections kept this tin horn dictator in check for 12 years and would have for 12 more. He was no more a danger to the region than he was to the US. Second point. Bush mishandled the run up to the war as badly as he did the post "mission accomplished" period. Worse...he had victory in hand, with inspectors back in country, unprecedented access, an army at saddam's door step, more concessions easily extracted AND the support and simpathy of the world. He lost all that advantage when he 1) rushed to war so carelessly and 2) messed up the aftermath so badly.

Frankly many Americans don't give a damn about the UN because it allows non-democratic goverments to abuse the system. A non-democratic government is anathema to US values, so we Americans in general don't approve of that.

What system are you talking about? GWB's my way or the highway system?

As for whether France were acting unilaterally against the wishes of the security council, we don't give a flying fuck. The UN said Saddam is a bad man, and when the coalition made efforts to remove him (a DECADE later), France screwed it up. That's the US's view.

Well this is a stupid remark. France is not stuck in a costly quagmire in Iraq. The US on the other hand is. Do you want to reconsider the "france screwed it up" (your)depiction of the "US view"?
