"Chalabi would line his pockets and the pockets of his "friends" and Sadr could lead Iraq back to the social policies of the 12th century -- well worth a few hundred billion dollars of US tax payers money"

You make big assumptions here. If it is a democracy of sorts, will iraq automatically follow clerics back to the 12th century? And dont get me wrong chalabi will make money, but he will also be helping to run a state. In any case its far better than the wahabis and zarquawi and much more like the afgan situation. I did preface it by saying that this is realism approach not neocon and i came from that school.
What is your approach other than america causes the worlds problems. mike
