Shadow, I guess there is some satisfaction at being the only black face at a Republican meeting or the only gay or the only Muslim at a campaign stop or something. For the actual politicians, it seems to make more sense. Somebody like JC Watts got a lot of attention for his sideshow act appeal. "Step right up folks to see the geek who proves we aren't all bigots. Go away, kid, you bother me." <G> Of course, once the sideshow left town, they dumped him. But the journalists are different. There are plenty of journalists of all stripes out there and one being a member of a group Republicans hate is not as much of an advantage.
