The point is simply that, where religion was concerned, the Founding Fathers were quite "liberal" in their outlook. To be sure, they were NOT religious "fanatics".

By the way, though Bush is not an avowed Christian Fundamentalist, I believe that he has CF leanings/fanaticism. And perhaps that is why he rushed unilaterally to war as if the inclusion/participation of other nations might detract from his "messianic" efforts to christianize and democractize the Middle East. Perhaps deep down he is convinced that, come what may, victory is assured with help from on high. I believe that many Christian Fundamentalists love to think that Bush has embarked on a "divine" mission in Iraq and they love him for it and support him to the hilt. (It was reported that, during a chapel service somewhere in Texas, Barbara told her son George, "He is talking to you.....He is talking to you, as the preacher read from the Holy Book about Moses leading his brethren out of bondage.)
By the way, the Fundamentalist Christian preacher Pat Robertson is on record intimating that as Bush is a man of God, (hey, didn't George say he is a born-again Christian a while back?) he will win the election by a "landslide". We will see.
