I most certainly believe that Bill Gates should pay more in taxes than do I -- and without apology. As for government programs, there is a place for the public sector in our society. We cannot fund national defense without taxation. We cannot have courts and police without taxation. Roads and other public infrastructure are logical candidates for public finance. Etc. etc. etc. Do we need to have a public finance plan for everything? Of course not. But when the "richest" country in the world has millions of children whose only access to health care is an all night visit to a hospital emergency room -- the most expensive form of health care delivery possible -- then you have something that can only be called stupid in the extreme.
