You have just identified yourself as being in the leftmost 10% of the population. The fact that you cannot recognize this if further proof of the accuracy of the label.

The NY Times is left of even the old TV media. If you divide the liberal to conservative continuum in four equal parts the old TV media are scattered around the left most quarter mark. The two rags you mentioned are left of that. The Wash Post sprinkles in much more moderate commentary. The NYT have only Safire and Broder that are not left of all the TV networks.

Being from the Great Plains and having lived on the coast, I am a little more exposed to the extremes of the spectrum. You will never believe this but I am closer to the center than you are by far.
