the Inquisition wasn't all that bad.

I know too little about that to be sure. I have an open mind as to whether it was as bad or widespread as commonly believed. We live in an era of revisiting every event in recorded history. There is new (reputable) book out that says it wasn't the Titanic that sunk, but her sister ship the Olympic. And that a government cover-up followed. It is a profitable business to dispute everything that has ever happened, as with those who don't believe we landed on the moon or that the WTC really happened.

The one thing I am sure of is that in every complex matter our point of view colors what we accept to be fact or truth. Maybe it has to do with being human.

As to your puzzlement about Bush's people not telling the truth (hypothetical, of course), look at the lengths FDR went to in concealing or minimizing his paralysis. I personally hate to ever admit that anything is wrong with my body. Maybe it has to do with being a guy.

BTW, in your latest UFO picture I see something rather suspicious running up Kerry's back.
