Well, wouldn't you say the median is a better indicator than the average when it comes to describe the typical american household?

The funny thing is that for the year 1998, the Census Bureau lists the median networth at $49,932 (in 2000 dollar) and the Fed lists it at $78,000 (in 2001 dollar). So did the dollar devalued 56% from 2000 to 2001? Or is the Fed disagreeing with the Census Bureau again?
