Gaston - Re :"a Cyrix 200+ ties or beats a Pentium 166 in FP instructions so at most it's a 15% decrease in performance"

Your ability to reason is summarised in the above statement. You claim that the Cyrix PR 200+ chip beats or exceeds a 166 MHz Pentium, so that is why it is SLOWER by 15%.

Makes good sense to you, and probably nobody else!

As for Photoshop - you clearly haven't run this on a Cyrix chip and compared it to a Pentium. May I suggest you do - try a Gaussian Blur on the same image, running on both computers. You should be able to time the difference with a stop watch.

As a further testimony to your inability to understand reality as it exists, consider your statement:

"Think about it, what to box-makers want? ...to sell their products..and they will include the chip that makes them profit, who cares what chip it is"

Excellent point - you just don't know the ANSWER. And the ANSWER is INTEL. Last quarter, Cyrix dropped their 6x86 prices to under $100 and what happened? Their sales dropped from >500,000 in Q1 to about 250,000 in Q2.

Why?

Because Intel Inside sells! That is what makes box makers sell computers. Ask Bob Palmer what CPU was inside the PCs he sold last quarter.
