Kerry wants a military draft?
I heard a rumor Senator Kerry is considering a military draft if he becomes president. If so, I'm against it.
It does make sense though since much of what Kerry says is projection in that it can be turned around on him to reflect who he is. I see no need for a draft for any reason other than a special emergency of some kind. Currently, we are getting the cream of the crop of recruits right now. A draft would bring in the average person on the street. Not exactly what we want right now unless we absolutely are forced to do this. We are far from that point.
But, let's say Senator Kerry does consider this draft necessary for some reason (and apparently the DNC considers it necessary). It appears we have enough Republicans to vote it down or stall it from becoming law. The military draft bill Democrat Representatives Rangel and Conyers have put forward for this draft was killed. House Democrat Representatives Murtha and Stark voted for it. I believe the Senate bill Democrat Senator Hollings sponsored is still open but the media hasn't reported further on it so that is my speculation. The only problem is if Kerry gets into office, he can push it through. Also, since the media is ignoring this bill and its sponsors and haven't truly vetted Kerry for the public. Chances are they will ignore talking about this draft bill after Kerry is elected and he can push it through behind closed doors.
It makes sense now why he was promising increasing troops on the ground in Iraq. With a draft he could fulfill that promise. As I see it, either President Bush has to be re-elected or we have to make sure as many Republicans are voted into Congress this year to make certain the draft doesn't happen. At least we know one thing about this subject, Republicans haven't tried to push through legislation for a draft but Democrats have made an attempt and who would the media hold accountable for a future draft, not a Democrat, that's for sure!
The only way to make sure a draft doesn't happen is to vote in Republicans. They are the only ones left held accountable by the media. At least the average American has a little power left by what the media deems important in Republican sponsored legislation. It is certain the media wouldn't deem a military draft important enough to cover in detail and stir up the average citizen if it was sponsored by Democrats but they would scream in bold headlines if it was sponsored by Republicans.
Why do I say this?
How much coverage of the actual bill and who sponsored it was carried in the media? The Dan Rather piece?
Come on, really, that was a touchy-feely piece at best. There was no real substance or fact behind it. So, we are left with Republicans who are truly the only ones left held accountable by the people through the media. At least I can sleep better at night knowing that a Republican majority would be held accountable and they have caved to media pressure before so there is some history of their acquiescence to popular opinion and especially if their feet are held to the fire by the media.
If Kerry were president without a Republican majority in Congress, we would have a draft signed into law on a Friday night, after 6 PM. Think about it! |
