There certainly were Japanese spies in Hawaii, but what could they really do? There was no war industry there. The naval and air facilities were concentrated in a couple of locations and easily guarded. The most a spy could do was report comings and goings of the fleet, of dubious value to the enemy.

I'm not sure where you are coming from on this issue. If, like E, you are looking for racism -- well of course, there was racism. Japan is a race. America (Anglo-Saxon) is a race. Japan attacked America; ergo, it was a war of races. At the time, the Japanese were as contemptuous of the white race as the white race was of the yellow race.

So what else is new, and where does that take us?
