Part of my breakfast this morning was a boiled egg, which is normally a mundane thing. But this morning after removing the shell and slicing the egg in two, I was greeted by four yellow circles, two in each half of the egg. For a split-second I was taken aback but quickly remembered the farm-fresh double-yolk eggs from my childhood and wondered why they're apparently so rare in today's grocery-store eggs.

Later, a biology-challenged question came to mind ... does a double-yolk egg produce twin chicks?
