I haven't talked to you in a while.

In last debate, Bush falsely claimed that VA got 22% more money over last 4 years. Reality they has been budget freezes for several years and now a 5% cut for this fiscal year. Also, VA has had a hiring freeze for 9 months now and my wife's department, where she is the chief, is now 5 people short out of original staff of 67: one doctor and 4 allied health professionals.

The added unfunded mandate of covering the new Iraqi & Afghani freedom vets for 3 years after they return is creating waiting lists bordering on 3 months time. The management of VA in her VISN declared a "no wait list" policy so the wait list is just on paper for now because it can't be officially entered on the computerized patient scheduling system.

Take home point is Kerry didn't challenge Bush on VA funding misstatements during debate since it looks like VA going to get shafted no matter who gets elected. Congress just last week voted down pay raises to keep qualified VA doctors from seeking better opportunities in private sector.
