A dozen years after Iraq's unprovoked attack on Kuwait

Bah! Humbug!
Saddam was manipulated into invading Kuwait to give the US an excuse to entrench itself in the Middle East. This in turn led to the troubles with Osama. The rest is history.

Kuwait, a tiny and puny kingdom, mischievously created by the Brits during their heyday in Iraq, was instigated by western interests into openly defying Saddam by not paying for part of the costs incurred by Iraq in its war against Iran (1979-1988) --- a war which also guaranteed Kuwait's security. And Saddam attempted to annex Kuwait (which is really Iraqi territory) only after the getting the "greenlight" from the US envoy. But Saddam found he was deceived. Of course, the pro-US government media didn't bother to tell you this.

I believe you will do well to read Machiavelli's "The Prince" and also take a course in Politics 101.
