The point is that Bush is being dishonest about the draft. All the evidence suggests that if Bush gets a 2nd term, there will be a draft.

Krugman points out that many people made the same argument four years ago about the budget - that it would lead to large deficits. Bush repeatedly claimed his budget would not lead to deficits, even though the evidence suggested it would. Guess who was correct?

This is also similar to Bush's "Jobs and Prosperity" package of additional tax cuts in 2002. Many economists that looked at that plan argued it would lead to poor job creation. Ten Nobel economists (along with 100s of other economists) wrote Bush and told him they expected poor job creation from the bill. They were correct; Bush is the first President since Herbert Hoover to preside over net job loss.

There are numerous other examples of Bush's mendacity. Why doesn't Bush just honestly say what he is going to do? In this case, why doesn't Bush just say he is going to have a draft? I know he will, you apparently know he will - the evidence is overwhelming.
