A number of remarkable things happened recently that appear to have gone almost unnoticed and almost unremarked.

We've had members of the Mexican federal government saying that they prefer Bush to Kerry because they know Bush is pro-NAFTA and pro-free enterprise, while Kerry appears to be neither, but is protectionist, and does not appear to support NAFTA, and is also anti-immigration.

We've had members of the Japanese government saying that bilateral talks with North Korea are a very bad idea, so they prefer Bush to Kerry.

We've had Putin saying that he believes, based on intelligence, that terrorists in Iraq are trying to scare people into voting for Kerry, and that if Kerry is elected, that would encourage the terrorists.

And we've had Howard re-elected in Australia, which is an indication that the Australians are not as ticked off about Iraq as Kerry had hoped.

And we've had whack job Mahathir, former Prime Minister of Malaysia, endorsing Kerry. And suggestions from the Palestinian Authority that they prefer Kerry, as well.

All of which are probably helping Bush more than the Mary Cheney kerfluffle.
