"I don't see the demolib pinheads splitting..."

They went homogenous.

Group theory tells us that:

Heterogenous groups are creative and innovative. This, however, comes with a high level of immigration and emigration. Members join in when they have a contribution and exit when things are stabilized.

Homogenous groups are extremely stable. They normally come together based on a common interest to get something done. Once the thing is done members don't like to leave the group or to have people join who think differently. It violates the group think and threatens the homogeneous nature of the group. Individuals who have innovative thoughts are suppressed by the group in favor of the homogeneity.

The social movement people of the sixties had a set agenda by the early 70s. They/we established the definition of what it is to be a Dem then. It is overly socialist and 60s social agendas. That group does not tolerate dissension among their ranks. They became homogeneous. Much of the thinking is obsolete dinosaurs but they have no place to go so they keep raising the same old banners. Many of the innovators have long left their ranks but will return when the strength of the conservative party begins to stifle change.

I think that time is very close but if so it will redefine the Dem party ... or what ever party replaces it. Change never comes from the top down which is why I am insisting that we are on the verge of a new cold civil war for social change and upheaval.
