But no one ever asks, "who exactly wants a draft?"

The military certainly doesn't. They much prefer an all-volunteer army. It contains many, many fewer malcontents. It has many more long service people, which allows for longer and more technical training. And it generally creates a higher level of morale, even among those who want to be there. After all, "a band of brothers" mentality is easier to maintain when it's most certainly true.

And politicians certainly don't want a draft. A draft means being besieged by distraught voters demanding an end to whatever sent their unwilling relatives outside the country.
Even in World War II, there were many serious morale problems both prior to December 1941 and after May 1945.

Plus, a draft it means having large, only somewhat trained, forces that are always in danger of being politicized.

And voters don't want a draft. It means they and their relatives lives being disrupted.

And Republicans don't want a draft. It just goes against their basic belief that it's better to pay for something then take it.

So, the only people who truly want a draft are those that long for a return to the 1960's (I.E., Liberal Democrats).
