I think there are quite a few celebrations going on. I haven't seen any of them myself, although I'd love to.

Here's a google search page for celebrations. google.com

If I had a week to spend on the Lewis and Clark trail, I'd start here visitmt.com This is an interpretive center at Lolo Pass, where when I was a kid they had to keep a bulldozer at both sides of the pass to pull cars throught the mud. I trapped country not too far from here. Lewis and Clark spent the night at Packer's Meadow.

From Lolo Pass, I'd learn the path of the Lolo Trail and follow it. To do it right would take a few days. It's just a single track dirt road most of the way, but never gets very far from the ground the expedition walked on 200 years ago. I worked in this area back in the 1970s. Some times I had the eerie feeling that I could hear the clatter of their horses' hooves. lolo.k12.mt.us This trail is famous for other reasons too. It was the buffalo road for the Nez Perce long before white men. General Howard pursued Chief Joseph's Nez Perce band over this trail. It's the only part of the entire expedition that hasn't been developed beyond a dirt track road.

In Spokane at the IMAX there is a feature about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. destinationcinema.com I'm sure it will be showing in many IMAX theaters near the expedition route.

Here's a site with many events listed. lewisandclark200.org You might also check the links that I put in the opening post.

The Columbia Gorge Discover Center in The Dalles Oregon has a big display, I think. I plan to see it next trip I make. I think they have Meriwether Lewis's brand iron that was found there some years ago. gorgediscovery.org

There is a display at the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center in Oregon City, Oregon. endoftheoregontrail.org

Traveler's Rest, where the expedition spent several days preparing for the worst part of the whole trip over the Lolo Trail, has an interpretive center. The actual camp site has been found, proven by increased mercury concentrations in the soil, left over from Dr. Rush's thunderclappers. fwp.state.mt.us

I hope this helps.

Despite my interest, I've been unable to spend much time trekking the route this year. Hopefully, next year I'll check out a few.
