Arthur - I see AMES is 37 1/2% of the way to 40 -
How are you ? I've been following AMES every day on SI and it certainly has been one of the (if not The) best performing stock this year on NASDAQ.
I am wondering what AMES has up their sleeves for this fall beyond the new electronics departments? Word has it that this Christmas' sales for the entire retailing industry will be 10% up from last year's generally disappointing levels. AMES must position themselves (merchandise-wise) to take advantage of a potentially better holiday shopping season than last year.
With the closings of The Wiz, and Lechmere's in our area (CT), AMES might capture some percentage of their old customers.
Is the company planning to open any additional re-modeled stores before Christmas? Maybe they should look for locations at old Wiz and Lechmere
sites. I know the old Wiz site in Newington, CT is large, with very adequate parking. I don't know if AMES would be interested, but the location is just a 15 minute drive from corporate HQ's in Rocky Hill.
The latest earnings estimate of $1.32/share for FY ending 1/31/98 appears to be right on track, and I'll let everyone else apply an earnings multiple to those expected earnings numbers to forecast a projected price of AMES.
Company must continue to keep overhead costs under control, and any additional upscaling of merchandise lines would only be a further plus for earnings.
