OHIO: OHIO WILL BE LITIGATED [Tim Reed 10/20 08:55 AM]

I heard an interview with Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell today. He was all over a recent ruling by a federal judge concerning provisional balloting. Federal law leaves it up to the states to determine how provisional voting works. In Ohio, as in 27 other states and the District of Columbia, provisional ballots must be cast in the proper precinct. This has been the law in Ohio for the last 10 years. Now a federal judge has ordered that provisional ballots are to be issued to voters voting in the wrong precinct. Blackwell said in the interview this will create the opportunity for voter fraud and will cause a lot of chaos. In addition, Jesse Jackson showed up at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections office to hold a rally Democratic office holders had already started the cry of disenfranchisement.

If this ruling causes even half the chaos and fraud Blackwell expects Ohio will be neck deep in lawyers for a long time.

IOWA: BUSH-KERRY MILES APART [Brian Kennedy 10/20 06:04 AM]

This morning finds Iowa once again simultaneously hosting both President Bush and Senator Kerry as they campaign just a few miles apart. The Des Moines Register reports that President Bush will rally the GOP in Mason City while Kerry offers a policy address just down the road in Waterloo to explain how he will “hunt and kill” terrorists with the very same weapons systems he spent twenty years in the Senate opposing. Actually, by 2004 standards simultaneous Iowa campaign appearance 80 miles apart constitutes a great distance. Back on August 4th Bush and Kerry both campaigned in Davenport at the same time a mere three blocks apart. As you might recall law enforcement’s focus on securing the campaign venues invited a rash of bank robberies. Maybe today in Iowa should be declared a bank holiday.

PENNSYLVANIA: CLINTON'S IN [Chris Lilik 10/20 06:00 AM]
