There are big differences along the continuum that includes recognizing up and down sides, admitting mistakes, and apologizing. Conflating them is not helpful. I think that apologizing is stupid, too. And admitting mistakes is fraught with political peril. But the thoughtful acknowledgement of complexity and up and down sides (and it's cohort that includes complexity and nuance) is a very healthy thing. Watching a president eschew it is disconcerting. Guess you missed the third debate. GWB stated that he made some mistakes. He also said he would not discuss them in a public debate. Further, he has stated many, many times that he believes in his decision to go to war against Iraq. Obviously, you don't. You get to express your opinion without being locked up by the government. Isn't democracy wonderful? It's the mustard on your hotdog and the cream in your coffee.
